Easily Make Travel Plans With the Best Trip Planning Apps

Planning on going on a trip soon? Instead of searching endlessly on the internet for the best flights and hotel deals, you’ll want to use travel planning apps so you can easily plan your trip with the least amount of effort. The best part is they’ll do the hard work of finding the best travel arrangements for you, so you don’t have to!

One of my New Year’s resolutions was to travel more. So, now that we are in mid-February, I have gotten started on doing my research to plan my next trip. Rather than going the usual route of searching for flight deals on multiple websites, I decided to use trip-planning apps to find flights, hotels, car rentals, and places to visit. After checking out several trip-planning apps, I selected my top 3 favorites and reviewed them. Here are my thoughts on each one so you can easily find the best one to plan your upcoming trip!

tripwolf – Travel Guide & Map – Rating: 3.9, Downloads: 500K+

My first choice is tripwolf. I found it to be a great choice for worldwide travel, as it has more than 600 travel guides in multiple languages including English, French, Spanish, German, and more. I also really like that you can do everything from booking flights, hotels, and car rentals to finding the best restaurants, attractions, bars and other hot spots in any city. Another plus I found is that you can view public transit routes, complete with Google Maps integration, so you can easily find your way through any city.

Although tripwolf lets you preview many of the trip planning features at no cost to your wallet, a small payment is required to unlock the complete travel guides. However, I’ve found that the variety of trip planning tools are more than worth it, as you will easily plan your trip, from the flights and hotels down to the café where you’ll drink your morning coffee.

Pros: +600 travel guides, multiple languages, book travel arrangements, public transportation routes.
Cons: Payment required to unlock full travel guides.
Overall: Access more than 600 travel guides in your preferred language, but you will need to pay a small fee to unlock the complete trip planning features.

Roadtrippers – Trip Planner – Rating: 4.5, Downloads: 500K+

My second pick is Roadtrippers. I found it to be a great option if you are planning on taking a road trip. What I really like about it is that all you need to do is enter your starting point and destination, and you’ll get countless recommendations for neat places to visit on your way there. I particularly like that you can discover everything from quirky attractions to scenic spots and local diners, which can really help in planning the perfect route. I also like how you can easily share your trip with friends and family, and how they can also pitch in by adding suggestions to the trip itinerary.

The only thing to keep in mind is that Roadtrippers is only available for trips within the United States, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia. For trips outside of these countries, you might prefer one of my other picks. Otherwise, Roadtrippers is a great option for helping you plan an exciting road trip.

Pros: Specialized for road trips, discover neat and quirky attractions, share trip itinerary.
Cons: Only available in the US, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia.
Overall: Easily plan your road trip with recommendations of places to visit along your route, but keep in mind that it is only available in select countries.

CheckMyTrip – Rating: 4.3, Downloads: 1M+

My third pick is CheckMyTrip. This one was a recent discovery as I came across a list of supposedly the best travel planning apps. The list had several other apps which I thought were pretty neat, but this one stood out for me. I’ll drop the link below if you want to check out the list for yourself.

Best 10 Apps for Planning a Trip

One of the reasons I really like CheckMyTrip is because you can do more than simply find flights, hotels, and things to do on your trip. Rather, I’ve found it to be the perfect travel companion as it keeps all your itinerary information neatly organized and handy for when you need it. You can keep track of everything from check-in times for flights, to tour schedules, and restaurant reservations, and more, all in one place. I also like that you can view up-to-date weather forecasts so you can easily plan your outings and make any last-minute itinerary changes.

The only drawback I found is that CheckMyTrip doesn’t let you book your travel arrangements directly from the app. However, the ability to integrate all your travel bookings into one place makes traveling so much easier. So, no need to keep track of login information for various booking websites, when you can find all your travel information just one tap away.

Pros: Keep track of travel itinerary, weather forecasts, flight updates.
Cons: No in-app booking.
Overall: Great for easily keeping track of your travel itinerary, although you will need to book your travel arrangements elsewhere.
